Ladies in Waiting (click for more)

This is a series of paintings inspired by the lives of courtesan women after the Middle Ages, who were considered more companions than servants to their royal mistresses.

Imagining these women in their complex political and emotional positions as well as their strength and beauty prompted me to look again at the great work of the European Renaissance painters.
